| Isabel Cruz is a self-taught chef—the early influences of her food being inspired by friends and family from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Peru, and Spain. When Isabel came to San Diego 13 years ago, she was a single mother with two young sons in search of a way to realize her dream of being a restauranteur and support her family. Times were tough in the beginning—trying to open a restaurant with very little financial backing—yet it has been her strong Latin upbringing that has often been the glue that has held her kitchens together when dealing with the day-to-day restaurant chaos and challenges. |
